PALM BURNING CEREMONY
BRING YOUR OLD PALMS THIS WEEK
On Saturday, March 5, we will have a palm-burning ceremony after the 5:30 pm Mass. We will then use the ashes for distribution on Ash Wednesday, March 9. So bring your old palms to the rectory anytime this week before Saturday.
INTRODUCE YOUR LITTLE ONE TO MUSIC
Interested in a music and movement program for your infant and/or preschooler? Find out more about the classes offered here in our parish! This enjoyable, hands-on parent/child music experience is open to young parishioners (from birth through five years of age), accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Unlike other music programs, it is unique in that it is faith inclusive and follows the church and natural seasons in an age-appropriate way. Children and parents use instruments, toys, and scarves to dance, chant, sing, play games, and pray together.
Join us for our Lent season which begins Wednesday, March 9th with a choice of times: 10 a.m. or 4:30 p.m.
Email faith@stjosephmaplewood.org for more information or call Jennifer at 973-761-5933.
DO YOUR PART TO HELP
How can you help St. Joseph Parish? You can do your part to help by participating in our Supermarket Grocery Card fundraiser!
Buy a card to use at your favorite grocery store for its face value, and St. Joseph Parish receives a 5% rebate on your purchase directly from that grocery store. You buy a $25 card to spend, St. Joseph gets $1.25; you spend $50, St. Joseph gets $2.50; you spend $100, St. Joseph gets $5.00. Our total sales last weekend was $2,525.
This is a painless fundraiser…every one shops for groceries! $25, $50, and $100 cards are available for Kings, ShopRite, Stop&Shop and Pathmark every weekend after all the Masses from one of our volunteers.

FOURTH GRADE LITURGY
FOURTH GRADERS TO HIGHLIGHT ‘LOVING SERVICE’
Next Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Mass, come and worship alongside our young fourth graders from the parish Religious Education Program as they and their families participate wholeheartedly in the liturgy. For two weeks, they have been preparing with their catechists and helping parents: they have studied the day’s gospel, reflected on our call to work for justice, and prepared related intercessory prayers.
As together we promise to serve and assist those in need, may we all be conscious of being sent forth from Mass to be the hands and feet of Christ, committed to build the Kingdom here on earth. We thank our children for raising our awareness of liturgy’s connection to Social Justice and Christian Service.

INTRODUCTION TO NEW TESTAMENT BIBLE STUDY
If you have ever wanted to read the Bible but did not know where or how to begin, then A Quick Journey Through the Bible Parish Study is for you. A Quick Journey through the Bible makes reading the Bible not only easy, but exciting. In this study, you will learn the major people, places, events and themes of the Bible—getting the “big picture” of salvation history. Perhaps for the first time in your life, you will understand the overview of the Bible story. This then makes your Bible reading and even the Sunday Mass readings come alive like never before. A Quick Journey through the Bible will be offered at six Parishes in the Archdiocese of Newark starting late March, 2011. For more information contact the Office for Evangelization at sotolili@rcan.org; 973 497-4353; www.rcan.org/evangelization.

As men of God, we seek to guide one another towards Christ by spreading the Gospel, and pray that we may follow Him faithfully. To introduce the Men’s Commission throughout the Church of Newark, we will hold our annual Catholic Men’s Conference (or Call to Catholic Men of Faith) which is a large scale public gathering of men throughout the Archdiocese and beyond to come together and support one another in their personal discipleship and journey toward Christ.
