SAVE THE DATE KEN CANEDO CONCERT

September 8, 2011

Dear Parishioner

As you are probably already aware from our parish bulletin, we are hosting an exciting event at our parish that is also a fun way to get ready for the new translation of the Mass later this year.

On Friday, September 30, at 7:30 pm, we will host a concert/workshop with Ken Canedo, composer of several popular contemporary Catholic songs, including Fly like a Bird and One Bread, One Cup. He is also well known for composing with Bob Hurd, The Mass of Glory, which is used in many Catholic parishes throughout the world, including St. Joseph Church.

Ken will present Keep the Fire Burning: The Legacy of the Folk Mass, based on his book of the same name, about music composed for Roman Catholic liturgies immediately after the Second Vatican Council. Faced with the invitation for people to participate more fully in the liturgy, young musicians brought their guitars and enthusiasm to the Mass, with appealing folk songs that empowered the assembly to sing, and planted the seeds for much contemporary Christian music composed in later decades.

With a sing-along of the music of Ray Repp, Paul Quinlan, the Dameans, and others, Boomers and young people will enjoy this fond remembrance of a colorful era in the American Catholic Church. Looking back at what happened just after the new Mass was introduced can inform us as we prepare for the implementation of the revised English translation this November.

Again, the concert/workshop will be Friday, September 30, at 7:30 P.M., at St. Joseph Church. Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $10.00 per person. You can purchase tickets any Sunday this month after Mass or from any Music Minister. Please see the flyer which is posted on this blog previously for more details. I encourage you to attend and enjoy this evening of song and fellowship. It is an opportunity you won’t want to miss.

Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Fr. Eustace Edomobi
